0:00Goku vs Saitama0:07The hero of Dragon Ball vs the One Punch Man himself!0:11But this ain't the type of battle where the winner just needs a bigger number.0:14This is a battle of limits.0:16The warrior who can break any limit against the superhero who has no limits at all.0:21Is Goku too strong for Saitama?0:23Or can the Caped Baldi overtake his power level and win with one punch?0:28He's Wiz and I'm Boomstick!0:30And it's our job to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win a death battle!0:39Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! It's the World Martial Arts Tournament!0:43See the greatest fighters around the globe! Flying dinosaurs, naked women, and that guy blew up the moon!0:50As the sun set, only two combatants remained. The sagely Jackie Chun and the monkey kid, Son Goku.0:57And Goku lost! The old man kicked him in the face! What the hell, Master Roshi? I mean, uh, Jackie?1:04But the young Goku earned a lesson far greater than any victory.1:08No matter how strong you are, there's always someone stronger.1:11And he took that personally, as in the greatest opponent he trained to beat every single day was himself.1:18Right. Even with Roshi's lesson, true competition was pretty rare.1:22This kid single-handedly dismantled the entire Red Ribbon army on his own.1:26an enormous criminal military operation no nation could defeat.1:30I bet Roshi just had a chip on his shoulder from when he took 50 years to make his special technique,1:35but Goku got it in like 5 seconds!1:38The Kamehameha!1:40The Kamehameha wave is Goku's signature move,1:43even though basically everyone else in Dragon Ball also knows it.1:47It's more like the building block to all super laser beams.1:50Goku charges his key in one place before blasting it out all at once.1:54It's impressive how Goku learned it so quickly.1:57In fact, his ability to rapidly learn and copy moves would come in handy when learning new techniques from his long list of masters.2:04Two old dudes, a talking cat, jolly green wrinkles, a blue gremlin who taught him the spirit bombs,2:10some aliens who taught him how to teleport, and even a couple angels.2:13Where the hell is he finding these guys?2:15But not just from them.2:17Goku made a habit of copying techniques from his rivals.2:20The solar flare from Tien the destructo disc from Krillin the after image from Jackie Chun Even his flight came not from his own turtle school of martial arts but from the rival crane school Boomstick can you name even one technique that Goku2:35came up with on his own?2:37Ehhhhhhhhhhh2:38Exactly. Despite this, Goku is not considered a copycat fighter, because he doesn't stop2:44at just copying techniques. He makes them his own. To him, a technique is a challenge2:49in and of itself, something to learn, improve and take to new heights.2:53Oh, the Dragon Fist!2:55What?2:55He came up with the Dragon Fist.2:57It's like the same idea as the Kamehameha,3:00put all your energy in one place and all that,3:02but it's a big freaking punch and a dragon.3:04It's not really canon.3:06Ah, whatever.3:08It's cool as hell.3:09Also, there was that one time he became a really big blue see-through person.3:13Nobody else did that, I'm pretty sure.3:15Okay, I was being facetious,3:16but my point is,3:18Goku often takes the concept of a technique3:20and turns it into something else,3:22either through his own training or on the fly to counter an opponent.3:26Goku is always growing, always evolving.3:28One-handed kamehameha? Check.3:30Bending it mid-air? Check.3:32Shooting two at once? Double check.3:34Firing it from his feet to become a living rocket?3:36Oh yeah, that's a check.3:37This desire to always evolve drives everything that Goku does.3:41Even when he won the World Martial Arts Tournament,3:43officially becoming the greatest martial artist in the world,3:46he wasn't done finding foes stronger than him.3:49You know what that means.3:50Time for aliens!3:52He's a Saiyan, a warrior people who are basically born and bred to fight forever.3:56A Saiyan's body even stops aging for most of their life,3:59just so they can get as many licks in as possible before they start pruning up.4:02But Goku didn't start with much of an advantage.4:05Despite being born on a planet with 10 times Earth's gravity,4:08he only had a power level of 2,4:10right in line with normal humans who are in the low single digits.4:14Even this random farmer with no known fighting experience had a power level of 5,4:18potentially including the shotgun.4:20So Goku was a low-class Saiyan, basically cannon fodder, but with enough determination, even a popper can take down a prince.4:28Of all Saiyans.4:29Though to be fair, Goku's Saiyan heritage does give him one significant boon.4:33When humans exercise, we tear our muscles microscopically in a way that they might feel stronger.4:37But Saiyans take this to a whole new level, because every time they almost die, they get a huge power boost.4:44And those gains are permanent.4:45The implications of this ability to break the limits of possibility are mind-blowing,4:50but they sort of stopped talking about it after the Frieza arc, so I guess we will too.4:54Goku has a bunch of other ways to boost his power like the Kaioken which can multiply his ki ten twenty even 100 times all in the blink of an eye Never mind how if he overdoes it he dies Hey5:06hasn't happened yet. There is seemingly no limit to how much physical suffering Goku is willing to5:11endure if it means victory. Like when all hope seemed lost against Frieza, and he tapped into5:16his ancestral rage, becoming the ultimate warrior of legend, the Super Saiyan. Oh, chills. Super5:24Super Saiyan isn't just one transformation, but several, stacking to amplify his power5:28many, many times over.5:29And culminating in the newly canonized Super Saiyan 4, complete with red fur and eye shadow.5:35Naturally, the next step in Power Creep was challenging a literal god of destruction by5:40achieving the level of Super Saiyan God.5:42Funny, he actually turned down being a god back in the day cause he thought it'd be boring.5:47Well, with his new god, Ki, Goku can immobilize foes, heal himself, annihilate someone from5:52existence with Hakai, or even shatter his whole universe. It's even better than it sounds. In5:58Dragon Ball, Goku lives in Universe 7, a massive cosmic superstructure over a thousand times larger6:04than our own universe. Goku almost destroyed that the very first time he went god mode. He's strong6:11enough to break out of Hit's time skip, fast enough to block attacks from Infinite Zamasu,6:16skilled enough to upgrade his red god form to punk blue, and powerful enough to match Jiren when6:21they fought in the Null Realm, basically a dimension so big and empty that anyone in6:25it can go all out without wrecking it.6:27And Jiren shook the whole damn place just by powering up.6:31And that is when Goku reached his peak potential.6:34The final stage of everything he'd been working towards, even since he was a little kid.6:40Roshi and King Kai trained Goku to perfect not just his body, but his spirit.6:44Korin trained him to predict his opponent, perfecting his movement.6:47Kami trained him to still his mind, to move like lightning.6:51Goku himself perfected Super Saiyan by stilling the form's fury.6:54And finally, Whis trained him to use that perfected stillness to react subconsciously to any attack thrown his way.7:01This is Ultra Instinct!7:04Ultra Instinct is, in many ways, the pinnacle of Goku's fighting style.7:08It's like he took Bruce Lee's be like water idea and supercharged it.7:13Nobody can touch the guy!7:14But Ultra Instinct has even more meaning to Goku.7:17His greatest power, honed through decades of experience and struggle, is that he'll always find a way to break his own limits.7:24And the beauty of Ultra Instinct is that while it is its own form Goku is learning to apply it to every other form he has The possibilities of what he can achieve are endless With Ultra Instinct mastered Goku is the strongest fighter in the multiverse7:38Well, if the threats ahead are any indication, he will always heed Roshi's early advice.7:43He knows there will always be someone stronger than him, a challenge ahead for him to surpass.7:48Oh, and he can't wait!7:50Nothing, not even death itself, will stop Son Goku from getting stronger.7:59We're almost to the battle, but give me 15 seconds to pitch our D&D and Blood on the8:02Clock Tower channel, Nightly Brew.8:04We have a brand new horror series, Black Pine, all about weird Halloween mysteries in a small8:09town, lots of jokes, and also drama.8:12Episode 1 airs today right after this death battle, and we'll follow that up with D&D8:17in space.8:18So check out the nightly brew linked below.8:21But now let's get back to the death battle.8:25Look up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane, no it's Caped Baldi, nobody's favorite superhero.8:35Well that's not entirely true.8:37While his bald dome and janitorial outfit might not inspire the masses, those who know8:42Saitama know he's the one punch man.8:45As is the man who can beat any opponent in one punch!8:50Yeah, obviously.8:50Okay, okay, but did you know this guy can get so strong, so fast,8:55that it's impossible for anyone to ever beat him?8:59Like, actually impossible!9:01Let's not get ahead of ourselves.9:02Stuck in the cycle of a Japanese salaryman,9:05Saitama rediscovered his passion for life after standing up to one of the many monsters plaguing his city.9:10So he devoted his life to getting stronger with a brutal training regimen.9:15of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and 10 kilometers of running.9:21That's not too brutal. It's basically standard for military.9:24Every single day.9:26Ah, yeah, that's not healthy.9:28He ignored the pain from his screaming muscles for so long that his hair fell out.9:33But it paid off when he became the strongest man alive,9:36growing so strong so fast that he could beat himself from the day before.9:42It's like a shounen power fantasy come to life.9:44Except the rest of the world could not keep up.9:47And now, Saitama can beat every living thing with just one punch.9:52A power fantasy turned existential nightmare.9:55Because with nothing strong enough to give Saitama a challenge, there's nothing pushing him10:00to keep getting stronger. His hero's journey was complete before it had even begun.10:04In his quest for a quest, Saitama has learned to create shock waves with his punches,10:10punch in several directions at once, and survive the icy cold, heavily irradiated vacuum of space10:16simply by holding his breath. Yeah, when the alien warlord Boros kicked Saitama all the way10:21to the freaking moon, no problem, he just hopped back in a couple seconds. Just in time to punch10:27away Boros' planet-busting energy wave with his greatest technique, the Serious Punch.10:32Which is a punch, but serious.10:35I bet you're wondering, what special techniques did Saitama learn during his epic training10:40montage?10:41What crazy super moves does this magnificent bald wonder have up his yellow sleeves?10:46Nothing!10:47He's got nothing.10:49No superpowers at all, he's just like a guy.10:52Really strong guy.10:54Don't sell him short.10:55His serious side hops are so fast they create after images.10:58He used his serious water gun to shoot lava while bathing in it in the nude.11:02And with his serious table flip, he can rip the moon apart with his bare hands.11:07Saitama can outrace his own reflection in a mirror.11:10That's like the textbook definition of moving faster than light.11:14And that was when he was still balding.11:16Good god, just think about how much faster and stronger he is without all that hair weighing11:20him down.11:21I bet he's strong enough to bench press black holes.11:23Oh wait!11:24He is!11:25Despite no longer finding any joy whatsoever in hero work,11:28and being too stubborn to, oh I don't know, find a hobby,11:31Saitama still clocks in day after day to save lives.11:35Because the world will always need a hero.11:37And it'll always need a villain.11:40Enter Garou, a martial arts master dedicated to becoming the strongest11:44and wreaking true villainy across the world.11:47After being empowered by God,11:49yup, capital G God,11:51Garu murdered Saitama's friend Genos right in front of him.11:54Holy shit! Emphasis on the holy!11:57And that's when things got serious.12:00For the first time in years, Saitama had met his mash.12:04Someone who could finally push him to get stronger.12:07Strong enough to fight across the solar system,12:10to blast apart the planet of Jupiter with just a sneeze,12:13to completely obliterate thousands of stars at trillions of times the speed of light,12:18leaving just an empty void in outer space!12:21Whoa, chills!12:23In just a matter of seconds Saitama power exploded to unforeseen heights easily eclipsing Garou literal god power in mere moments This is Saitama true superpower There is absolutely no limit to how strong he can ever get12:38Turns out all those squats weren't just for sculpting the perfect ass.12:41His inhuman dedication to pain and training broke his limiter.12:46Essentially, every living thing has a biological limit to how strong it can become.12:50And Saitama somehow removed that.12:53So in truth, it isn't just that Saitama is incredibly strong, it's that he broke the concept of being strong.13:00If you're a painter, engineer, architect, whatever, you spend years honing your skills to grow your talents.13:06Saitama basically learned how to skip all that and do it instantly, not just during his training arc, he can do this hack whenever.13:13This cannot be overstated. No matter how strong you are, no matter your power level, it's only a matter of time before Saitama surpasses you.13:22Saitama is, effectively, as strong as he wants to be.13:26But all that was cold comfort to Saitama, who realized too late that achieving his dreams didn't matter without friends to share him with.13:33Except, he's as strong as he wants to be.13:36He can copy any martial art he's capable of, including Garou's incredibly advanced physics-bending style that manipulates time.13:43So he did that.13:45He punched so hard he went back in time and stopped Garou before he killed Genoms.13:50Literally beating him in zero punches.13:53Or non-punch!13:55He punched time!13:56Don't worry, Wiz. It was a race to the finish.20:09We'll break this down into three categories, starting with the difference in power.20:13Saitama's greatest measurable feat eradicated thousands of stars.20:17Estimating the distance by comparing Earth here to the nearest stars in the solar system,20:21we can determine the area of the resulting void was nearly a trillion square light years away.20:26That amount of power is equivalent to over 100 sextillion supernovas.20:30Awesome! But even at the start of Dragon Ball Super,20:33Goku's clash with Beerus nearly wiped out Universe 7,20:36a super universe over a thousand times bigger than ours.20:39That's worth over 25 quindicillion supernovas,20:43which means Saitama would have to increase his power by 25 octillion times just to match Goku.20:49So Goku obviously had a head start, but Saitama's whole thing is that he's not just strong,20:54he can become as strong as he wants,20:56because he has no limit.20:58We need to compare their ability to grow and evolve past their limits While Goku started with a power advantage the more he engaged with Saitama the quicker he lost that advantage Pushed by Goku challenge Saitama broken limiter meant21:11he got way stronger super quickly. So we have to ask, could he catch up to Goku, like when he21:17fought Garou? To answer this question, we use the in-universe line chart of Saitama and Garou's21:22relative strength to calculate Saitama's rate of growth. Based on the shape of the curve,21:27his increases appear to be exponential, meaning his power grows proportionally to his previous level.21:33So the stronger Saitama got, the faster he got even stronger!21:37There isn't an exact timeframe listed for the chart, but in context it represents a quick series of exchanges,21:43so we can generously assume it's measuring time in seconds.21:46By charting these points, modeling them out, and inserting the difference in power with Goku,21:50we calculate Saitama could bridge the gap and match the power of Super Saiyan God in only two minutes.21:56What Dragon Ball fight is ever wrapped up before two minutes?22:01And Goku likes nothing better than a challenge.22:03As crazy as that power gap starts Saitama takes limits cause he always gonna catch up and blow right past Goku We can discount Goku ability to break his own boundaries in fights but typically that amounts to reaching a specific point of power22:17Saitama's ever-increasing potential is certainly on another level,22:21which means Goku had to rely on his techniques.22:24Goku was more mobile with his flight, could fight at range with his ki,22:27could totally wipe Baldi with Hakai,22:29and has spent way more time adapting to weird new opponents.22:32Saitama, on the other hand, has little to no martial arts skill22:35to match Goku's vast depth of knowledge and experience.22:38But none of that would matter when Saitama inevitably got too strong for him.22:42This is where Goku's most important techniques come into play, his transformations.22:47Saitama's potential might be limitless, but it still takes time.22:51Transformations and power boosts, such as Super Saiyan and Kaioken,22:54not only let Goku control the degree to which he gets stronger,22:56they also spike his power instantaneously,22:59effectively resetting the battle dynamic even after Saitama closes the gap.23:03And Goku could repeat that a bunch of times with all the hair colors he's collected over23:08the years.23:09Goku takes the final edge in techniques.23:11But there one more question Is Saitama a gag character that can never lose If you assume he runs on Bugs Bunny logic maybe but it more like his power is a gag because he doesn fit the world around him23:23Until he does.23:25Saitama is certainly a satire of Shonen Heroes, but his fight with Garou is clear evidence23:29that his power rises through effort, not gags.23:32In fact, that's kind of a major point of his story, the effort is the gag.23:36If you think about it, Saitama's OP shenanigans are really similar to Goku, especially in23:42early Dragon Ball. Hell, he even matched a Raleigh in power for a bit. It's easy to23:46forget Goku's roots are also in comedy. With his bevy of transformations, an23:50enormous gap in power to start, and far more applicable experience, Goku could23:54certainly recognize Saitama's threat and take the win.
